Dortmund University of Applied Sciences
The Dortmund University of Applied Sciences (FHDO) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia (approx. 15,000 Students for the winter semester 2020/2021, approx. €13,000,000 in third-party funding 2021) and in addition to the Bochum University and the Westphalian University are one of the three partners of the Ruhr Master School (RMS) as well as other cooperation projects between the three universities, such as ruhrvalley. Founded in 2013, RMS has established itself as a well-functioning network with an extensive and a diverse range of cross-university offerings for master’s students have been established. One of the primary goals is to make study offerings usable across universities and thus provide more options to create the students. The RMS enables master’s students to be networked, interdisciplinary and to study practically. Block weeks in which current questions from research and development are examined in a project-oriented manner. Two of the the courses participating in the RMS are the Embedded Systems Engineering (ESE) course. The FHDO’s computer science department and the master’s program in information technology Information Technology Department at FHDO. The information technology department will introduce new ones in 2023 focus areas in the Bachelor’s degree program in Information Technology. One of these focuses is Smart Mobility and therefore closely related to a new professorship of the same name to be filled in 2022 Department of Information Technology and the RMS Summer School 2022. The co-applicant Prof. Becker is vice dean of the information technology department (670 students, including 257 beginners). Winter semester 2020/2021) as well as course director of the ESE course and one of the three Directors of the RMS. At the information technology department he deals with topics of: Environment perception for mobile robotics and autonomous driving. He previously worked in the area radar technology at the automotive suppliers Hella GmbH & Co. KGaA and Delphi Deutschland GmbH (Aptiv) most recently worked in the position of Technical Manager. About the laboratory equipment includes, among other things, an AI workstation with two NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs as well as various radar sensors (24 GHz, 60 GHz, 76 GHz). The Information Technology Department maintains a test vehicle (Audi Q7), which was purchased on the initiative of Prof. Becker in collaboration with Audi. Besides the FHDO has a cooperation agreement with the test track.
